Replicating
the BVU Model
Nonprofit
organizations are in transition, facing strategic and financial challenges
and opportunities. At the same time, businesses/employers recognize that
involvement in the community is good for business, good for employees,
and good for the community. BVU is a VEHICLE that effectively and
efficiently involves talented people in leadership and volunteering.
In
2000, BVU established BVU Lorain County (Ohio). In 2002, BVU established
BVU Maryland in partnership with the Maryland Association of Nonprofit
Organizations.
BVU
thanks the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, the Carnegie
Corporation, and Time Warner for funding support.
BVU national services:
- Feasibility studies to replicate BVU services to meet the interests
of businesses and nonprofits in the particular community
- Presentations to engage business leaders and funders in supporting
replication
- Consulting to customize the BVU model to serve the interests
of a particular community
- Training and consulting for program development and implementation
- Development of a revenue structure to fund the BVU programs
"Nonprofits
in Maryland are experiencing serious problems recruiting, training, and
retaining board members. For years, we've been searching for an effective
way to help nonprofits address the problem. BVU is the solution. It's
the most effective and sustainable model we have found to bring business
leaders and nonprofits together in service to the community."
Peter Berns, Executive Director, Maryland Association of Nonprofit Organizations
